Girl Scout Cookies are the devil, and how $30 turned into $90...

Girl Scout Cookies are the devil:
It's true! First of all, they only come around once a year, so you are compelled to stock up. If you don't get them now, you won't have another chance for another year! Another year! So, before I tried to squeeze my lumpy body into lycra and made the vow to go on a diet, I bought 5 boxes of cookies. 2 Samoas, 3 tagalongs...I love them. So, after a dissapointing last week of restricting my calories to under 1400, giving up regular soda, and working out 5 days, and getting on the scale tonight and reading that I had gained a pound and a half...I decided to eat some dang cookies. I just downed 7 freakin girl scout cookies! Oh yes! 7! Binge eating at it's worst! I did get 15 minutes on the Eliptical in today-but seriously...I have issues. I am back on track tomorrow, and if that freakin scale doesn't move by next week then we will have some serious problems.
$30 into $90:
Isabella has dance class on Wed. nights from 5-6 pm. My mom meets me at Dietrichs and takes the baby's home, and Tommy goes to a friends for the hour. I have 50 minutes of peace and quiet mommy time. Sometimes I go to Alisons, sometimes I run to Walmart, and on a really good day I venture into Joann's. I cannot get out of that store without spending at least $30. I went there tonight with the idea to get the kids Easter basket fillers from the $1 bargain aisle. So, I started there, then I saw some super cute Spring decor. I took a deep breath and called Todd to get his opinion on buying some decor. Knowing he wouldn't care, I had already started filling my cart with 30%-50% off items. He said sure, how much? I said about $30 or so. Oh, that's fine he said. So I shopped and shopped and shopped some more...couldn't resist the fabric at $1.99 a yard. So, or course, I get to the checkout and $91.99 later I am walking out of the store with 4 bags and a shroud of guilt. I told Todd and of course he doesn't care, but then on the way home his wonderful reliable pickle broke down...engine trouble? Do I take the decor back? Any suggestions??? I really like it though!! He has assured me that he has a new engine in the garage....what should I do....help-Tina and Adrienne-you guys are really good with your $'s! Oh I also decided to give up my $60 hair color, the Wii fit I really want, and $60 of wall decor for the kids rooms...so I am kind of saving money at this point...right?

Sara -

1) Girl Scout cookies - don't feel bad because I caved with GG cookies at work last week and ate 5. Yikes. That was following a cupcake the night before with extra icing. Double YIKES. Anyway - you are really putting too much pressure on yourself with the scale. I have been working out and watching calories for years and let me tell you - you need to keep up the calorie counting, zero soda, and exercising. I know that it is really REALLY discouraging when you do not see results, but take it from me, it will all start to hit at once. When I was about 40 or so pounds overweight years ago - I started and did not see much happening for at least 2 months. Then my clothes started fitting looser and I just woke up one day and was like "oh my gosh - I am loosing some major weight!" That is exactly what will happen to you so keep it up - even if you get discouraged. It WILL pay off. TRUST ME.

2) Since you have cut back a bunch with the savings you described, I wouldn't take back everything, but I would maybe take back a few things that you aren't particularly crazy about. It is difficult to give advice when I don't know the entire picture - your budget. I personally would keep the basket fillers, probably most of the fabric since you make things yourself which does save money, too, and maybe 1 or 2 of the home decor and I would probably return a few items to relieve some of the guilt you are feeling.

Luv ya!

Sara-

Firstly, don't beat yourself up over the cookies and the weight loss. I ate like four 100 calorie packs yesterday, back to back - I couldn't stop myself, I was starving and went over my points like crazy. So, we all do it! The important thing is to recognize we did it, and get back on it the next day.

Secondly, Joanns. I read that you already decided to take $10 back. I completely understand the "Shroud of Guilt" that you explained. I get it a lot at Target. I walk around putting the cutest stuff in my cart and then I walk back around, putting it all back. It sucks. I view home decor as a long term investment. It stinks buying it up front, but if it's something you can use year after year, then it's not so bad. We are all trying to cut back on things and it sounds like you're doing your part.
